We built an automatic installer for RepresentMap

RepresentMap implementations around the world

Some Startup Genome curators choose to create their local community map on their own domain using the RepresentMap framework with Startup Genome integration enabled. It's a great option if you want your map to exist on your domain but don't want to embed Startup Genome's map or if you simply prefer the way RepresentMap looks. It's been adopted in hundreds of cities and we encourage you to try it.

We noticed that some people were having issues setting up their instance of RepresentMap or didn't quite have the technical know-how to make it happen. So, we decided to make it a little easier by building an automatic installer.

Our developer Chris Taulborg took this on as a solo project. His pull request was approved by Alex Benzer (one of the creators of RepresentMap) last week.

The requirements are pretty much the same as a wordpress, drupal or magento site:

  1. You have to have a server (local or otherwise)

  2. You have to have a database setup and access to it

How to run the wizard:

Simply extract the RepresentMap files to your root directory and open the site. If the installer detects that you don’t have a config file (db.php), you will be taken through the install wizard.

We hope this makes things a little bit easier.
